Fourth week Competency Review
For my fourth week I thought I would tackle something easier so I decided to investigate Fotobables. I found this website easy to use. You can register your personal file for free and it was simple to upload photos to your sight. Fotobable formats the image (you don’t have to resize or anything). Their is a menu of backgrounds and looks to choose from. I decided this could be a great way to post on the Alvarado Mosaic/ Art Program website. I created a few Fotobables explaining what we have been working on in our painting classes. I think this would be a great way to set up a virtual gallery for the school art activities. Student, parents and teachers could see and hear about the exploration in art and how it connects with the standard as a whole. Unfortunately I was unable to figure out how to post these Fotobables to the Googlesite I created for Alvarado but was easy on wikispaces. Hope you enjoy.

Third week Competency Review
This week i finally started on creating a web page for the Art Program at Alvarado Elementary School. If you remember I tried out googlesdocs which is more like drop-box a file sharing cloud site. Googlesites has templates similar to the wikisite web page that we use to post our assignments, resources and input on readings.
In Googlesites I tried using the educational template and was able to change the photos background image, text, font and am now working on the sidebar edit screen. I also learned how to edit an imove and even create title and credit text and sound. The real challenge for, me anyway, was learning how to post a video I filmed and created on my computer to a web site. Evidently you first need to set up a uTube account and then upload this video to UTube and then you can embed your video to post on your site. Another great thing that I have learned is how to manipulate photos using iphoto and photoshop.

Second week Competency Review
This week I explored the use of virtual field trips for learning opportunities. I found that there are many programs of how to construct virtual field trips that you can buy online. I did not have any luck constructing one for my own use but found that there is adequate access to virtual field trips that can be downloaded from most Museums websites. (For Free)
iTunes also has a great collection of educational podcasts and virtual field trips in its library under iTune U. I also found some really great tutorial videos on Utube that I will defiantly use in my class room. It was fun for me to explore all that is available as content and inspiration in regards to technological access for Art educators. I can defiantly see students enjoying the virtual field tips I found available. I think it would be great to view as a class for discussion and if they were interested could watch it later on there own computer. Using realia to reach all learners makes a lesson plan come to life with motion, sound and images. I think it is very important to start any art lesson with a wide variety of examples and approaches. The use of technology helps me keep the students interested and engaged by allowing me to easily find a wide variety of images on content linking art to popular culture and Art History.
The other technology I explored after reading Crystals second week competency, was the use of Drop-box application. I found it easy to use sharing documents with both of my computers. I wonder if the use of a wiki might be better for organizing class assignments only because with wikis there seems to be unlimited size?......Erin?

Well I never really accomplished creating a slick virtual field trip but I did learn how to embed a video and a power point to this wiki sight. I found the Utube videos on how to create a stencil very informative and entertaining. I don't know how to edit language and advertisements for secondary education but I could see how an instructor could use a wiki to enhance the lesson with tutorials of how to use photoshop for a home work assignment followed up with a lesson on how to cut and paint a political stencil.


Class homework:
1)Review todays power point presentation from class today. A
2) Select image from your own photo library that you find powerful, compelling, and is a good candidate for a political statement.
3) Watch tutorials on how to create a two tone image using photoshop.
4) Have a print or drawing ready for Monday's Art class.

Week one Competencies Practice.

Sense we met on Saturday I have created two Wikis to use as a communication document. The first wiki contains the four other artist/ educator I will be traveling with in China and Korea this summer. This is a small delegation of Art educators that teach in the bay area. After watching several of the streaming tutorials I was sold on the wiki! I hope it will cut down on all of the e-mail. The other wiki is to help coordinate the the art committee that cant seem to find time to have a sit down meeting. Now we should be able to have time to comment and edit lists of schedules and events. Currently we that is the parents and I are conducting 4 after school activities that culminate in a large installation of a mosaic with hand made tiles. 

Well reporting in regards to my use of the wikispace verses the Googledoc,sight. Both have a common page that participants can be invited to edit.

Personally I like the the feel and graphic options of the wikispace sight. I also found it easier to use.

First week Competency Review
The wiki seems to be an easy and simple way of organizing information between groups of people that have similar interest or participation. This method of communication defiantly would cut down on paper and offers freedom to participate with links of related topics that could be video, images, sound and web content. I think this would be a great way to evaluate students understanding of a topic. For instance lets say I give a lecture and demonstration of political art and its use in history. As a follow up to the introduction of this topic students could be assigned a task of finding examples of artist and social movements on the web and post them on the class wiki. On line and in there free time students could post their discoveries for comments and sharing. As the instructor I would be able to easily prompt response to the posting. In this way students could feel apart of the content and hopefully create more interest in the learning process.
The use of the classroom wiki could be used as a tool to collaborate with other instructors on campus. For example the instructor of the computer lab could work directly on line with me on research topic assigned in the art class. This could be performed with any of the other instructors integrating art lesson with other content being studied. Creating Esher like tessellation's in the the art room while learning the geometry of a circle and its relation to angles and degrees in Math class. This type of integration could happen with out the use of technology but it seems to be a quicker and cleaner way to integrate curriculum and under standing goals between disciplines and classrooms.
Wikis would be a great way to have students work collaboratively on group proposals and assignments. It is also noted in second week reading assignment “using Technology to motivate Students to Learn Social Studies” by Tina Heafner. , that students who use technology found it rewarding and motivating creating projects that looked more polished and containing more content and information that seems to lift their self worth evaluation. Motivating students to learn with more confidence. It was also noted that students of all levels seem to posses an adequate amount of skill using technology which promoted learning in regards to the lesson’s understanding goals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=212XC1zfxXY
